SCRUM and The Classic Chicken and Pig Story

The Pig and Chicken Story may be considered a classic but, in all honesty, this is something new to me.

People familiar with SCRUM or those using the framework would know this story by heart.

The Pig and Chicken Story story is used to explain two of the main types of people in SCRUM — the pigs and the chickens. Here is a cartoon depicting the story.

The Classic Story of the Pig and Chicken Filipino Version

So the “pigs” are committed to building software regularly and frequently, while everyone else is a “chicken” — interested in the project but really indifferent because if it fails they’re not the pigs—that is, they weren’t the ones that committed to doing it. The needs, desires, ideas and influences of the chicken roles are taken into account, but are not in any way allowed to affect, distort or get in the way of the actual SCRUM project.

What is SCRUM?

SCRUM is an iterative, incremental framework for project management and agile software development. It is one of many different types of agile software development frameworks that you can use in the real world to deliver working software.

What does SCRUM stands for?

Actually, SCRUM is not an acronym so, you can use SCRUM (capital letters) or just scrum (small lettters). There are just some people who like to spell the word in capital letters.

  1. I find the filipino translation easier to digest. So are you practicing SCRUM on your process? It would be an interesting read if you can share it to us.

  2. I’m glad you liked the Filipino version. The translation for the text in that cartoon version was completed by Randy Dichoso.

I’m not practicing SCRUM but I do hope I get to experience such. I just wanted to share ideas or concepts that capture my curiosity, whether it’s something new or old.

How about you? Are you one of those people using SCRUM?
